Our story
Made for our cats first.
Scratch Canvas began as a Christmas gift for Honey and Theo. We wanted a scratcher they would enjoy using and we would be happy to keep in the room.
It started as a gift to our cats. Now we’re sharing it with yours.
The scratcher worked. The room did not.
Like a lot of cat people, we kept buying cardboard scratchers that worked but left flakes around the room and never felt at home in our space. Theo also had opinions about the ottoman.
The alternatives often felt either completely plain or so heavily cat-themed that they became the visual focus of the room. We wanted a middle ground: something practical for cats and intentional enough to leave out.
So we made them one.
Tara created the Koi artwork. Tanner created the Tiger artwork. Together, we paired the scratch panels with a simple wooden easel and gave the first Scratch Canvas to Honey and Theo for Christmas.
Creating something that was uniquely theirs changed the way we thought about cat products. A useful object could also carry personality, creativity, and care.
Why an easel?
The easel gives the scratch surface a clear visual frame and a practical range of positions. It can display a panel upright or at a low angle, and it makes it easy to change the artwork.

The cats who started it
Honey and Theo are rescued littermates we adopted together at seven weeks old. They arrived tiny and needing hands-on care. We syringe-fed them, taught them to drink water, and watched two very different personalities emerge.
Caring for them taught us to pay attention to the details: what each cat prefers, how they play, and how a shared home can work better for everyone in it.
A two-person studio
We’re Tanner and Tara, the husband-and-wife team behind Scratch Canvas. Our styles and strengths are different, but the brand is better because both of us shape it.
Tanner
Tanner developed the original Scratch Canvas concept, created the Tiger artwork, and leads the website, operations, sales, and customer experience.
Tara
Tara created the Koi artwork, shapes the visual identity, hand-crochets the fish toys, and leads market presentation and booth design.
Together
We make product decisions together and handle sourcing, quality control, packing, customer support, and in-person markets ourselves.
A home shared with cats should work for everyone in it.
That means useful products for cats, intentional design for the room, and honest work from the people behind the brand.
